South Africa Secures Record R890 Billion, But Will It Deliver?

Africa economy countries politics
South African companies have pledged the vast majority of a record R890 billion in investment commitments. The pledges were secured at the country's sixth South Africa Investment Conference (SAIC). The total is the highest since the annual conference began. It brings the total promised over six years to R2.38 trillion. The government says more than half of all pledges from previous conferences have already been implemented or are in progress. These investments are tracked through a dedicated unit. The conference is a key part of the government's plan to fix the economy and create jobs. The large share of local investment is seen as a sign of confidence from South Africa's own business sector. Analysts note that a "pledge" is a commitment, not yet actual spent money. The focus now shifts to turning these promises into real projects and factories.
