Son Kills Mother, Calls Her a "Monster Lizard" in Hong Kong Tragedy
A Hong Kong man has been sent to a psychiatric hospital indefinitely for killing his mother and hiding her body.
Wong Chun-kit was sentenced on Monday in the High Court. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility. This means the court accepted he was not fully responsible due to a mental disorder.
He also admitted to preventing the lawful burial of a body.
The court heard that Wong believed his mother was a "monster lizard" when he killed her. After the killing, he concealed her body under a bed.
Two psychiatrists examined Wong. They both recommended a hospital order instead of a prison sentence. Justice Wilson Chan Ka-shun agreed with this recommendation.
The judge described the case as a "tragic one." The hospital order means Wong will be detained for treatment. Experts will decide when, or if, he is ever safe for release.
