Nigerian Air Strike Hits Village Market, Killing 200
A Nigerian military air strike hit a village market on Saturday night, killing an estimated 200 people. Local officials and residents report the strike occurred in northeast Yobe state as the military pursued Islamist militants. Nigeria’s Air Force confirmed an operation in the nearby Jilli area of Borno state. In a statement, it said the target was Boko Haram militants. The statement did not mention a market strike and the Air Force has not responded to further requests for comment. The state government in neighboring Yobe has not yet issued a statement. Emergency services are responding to the scene.
