Fujimori Leads Peru Vote, But Runoff Likely
Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori holds a narrow lead in Peru's presidential election, an early exit poll shows.
The Ipsos Peru survey gives Fujimori 16.6% of the vote. She is followed by leftist Roberto Sanchez with 12.1% and centre-left candidate Ricardo Belmont with 11.8%.
No candidate is close to the 50% needed for an outright victory. This means the top two finishers will almost certainly face each other in a second-round vote on June 7.
The election day was preceded by earlier police clashes with protesters demanding economic change. Final results are pending official counts.
