I served with Rex Heuermann on my building's co-op board. To us, he was just another member—a working architect from Long Island. This week, authorities identified Heuermann as the alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer. His arrest has shocked our New York City community. He lived in a run-down house on Long Island. But through his work, he regularly interacted with wealthy Manhattan clients. His dual life hid in plain sight. Now, we are left to reconcile the man we knew with the crimes he is accused of committing.
