Seeing Double: A Photographer's Blurred World
Imagine trying to pour a drink, but you see two glasses. You run to catch a ball, but you are always too late. This is daily life for people with diplopia, or double vision.
Photographer Vanessa Vettorello explores this misunderstood condition in her project "Wandering Star." She uses her own experience to show what it is like.
Diplopia means seeing two images of one object. A common cause is strabismus, where the eyes are misaligned. If it begins in childhood, the brain often learns to ignore one image. This is called suppression.
But for Vettorello, the double and blurred vision remained. Her photo essay makes this invisible struggle visible to others.
