U.S. authorities have arrested three Iranian nationals after the State Department terminated their legal permanent resident status. The individuals are Seyed Eissa Hashemi, his wife, and their son. Federal agents took them into custody on Saturday. Officials linked the family to senior Iranian regime figures. Hashemi's mother was a revolutionary and served as the spokesperson for Iran's government during the 1979 U.S. embassy hostage crisis. The crisis defined the presidency of the late Jimmy Carter. The State Department said the three had family ties to an Iranian military general, a regime spokesperson, or a security chief. A "green card" grants an immigrant the right to live and work permanently in the United States. The government can revoke this status for reasons including national security.
