Cyclone Vaianu Slams New Zealand, Forces Mass Evacuations
Cyclone Vaianu struck New Zealand's North Island on Sunday. Officials have described the storm as "life-threatening."
It made landfall near the Maketu peninsula. The cyclone brought winds over 130km/h (80 mph), heavy rain, and dangerous ocean swells.
The severe weather has caused widespread flooding and power outages. Emergency services have evacuated hundreds of people from their homes.
