U.S. Government Sabotaged From Within, Warns Analyst
A prominent writer argues that the systematic dismantling of the U.S. federal government is not being fully captured by daily news reports.
Rebecca Solnit, a columnist for Guardian US, states that every department and function of the government is being "fatally corrupted or altogether dismantled." She calls it an "inside job."
According to Solnit, the damage extends beyond domestic services. She says the administration is also harming the global economy, international alliances, and environmental protections. The consequences, she warns, could last for decades or even centuries.
The report claims essential protective services are being undermined. These include nuclear stockpile monitoring, cybersecurity, and public health programs. Food safety, clean air and water regulations, and civil rights protections are also cited as being under attack.
Solnit contrasts this with increased funding for parts of the government aligned with the Trump agenda. She specifically names the Department of Homeland Security and the military.
The column also references a news report about Pete Hegseth, a former official. It says he reportedly blocked promotions for more than a dozen Black and female military officers.
