Golden Eagles May Return to England After 150-Year Absence
A new study has identified eight areas in England that could support a population of golden eagles. The government has now allocated £1 million to a recovery programme, making their reintroduction a real possibility.
Golden eagles have been absent from English skies for more than 150 years. They were likely the "eagles" referenced by William Shakespeare in his play *Richard III*.
The funding will support further work to assess the potential for bringing the large birds of prey back to their former habitat.
