Chinese Robotaxis Quietly Begin Testing on Singapore Streets
A left-hand drive car is navigating a quiet street in northern Singapore. It looks ordinary, but the person in the driver's seat is trained not to touch the wheel or pedals. This is a test of a fully autonomous vehicle, or robotaxi.
The current tests require a human safety officer inside. The goal, however, is to remove the driver completely. This would match services already running in cities like Beijing, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
For now, Singapore is moving carefully. The country is using technology from leading Chinese self-driving companies to advance its own robotaxi plans. This partnership marks a significant step in Singapore's push to become a leader in urban transportation technology.
