Hong Kong Ministers' Travel Costs Taxpayers HK$46.6 Million
Hong Kong's top officials spent over HK$46.6 million (US$5.9 million) on official travel during the past three financial years. The costs were revealed in records given to the city's lawmakers.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po had the highest spending. His 35 trips cost HK$11.53 million, nearly one-quarter of the total budget.
However, Secretary for Commerce Algernon Yau Ying-wah was the most frequent traveler. He took 50 trips at a cost of HK$7.21 million.
The records cover all 21 ministerial-level officials. The spending details are part of the government's regular reporting to the Legislative Council.
