Some Americans are waiting for days in parking lots to see a doctor. They are seeking free treatment at temporary clinics run by the charity Remote Area Medical (RAM). The non-profit sets up pop-up clinics in underserved areas across the United States. Services include dental work, eye exams, and general medical care, all provided by volunteers at no cost to patients. RAM's CEO, Chris Hall, says demand has surged. He reports that people now arrive up to two days early, sleeping in their vehicles to secure a place in line. Hall cites soaring healthcare costs as the primary reason, stating care has become financially "out of reach" for many. The long lines and overnight waits highlight a gap in the U.S. healthcare system, where even insured patients can face high deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses for basic procedures.
