Vance to Iran: "Do Not Test Us" as Mideast Mission Begins
U.S. Vice President Mike Vance delivered a sharp warning to Iran as he departed for urgent peace talks in the Middle East. "Now is not the time for Iran to play games with the United States," Vance told reporters. His comments come during a period of extreme regional tension. A major goal of his trip is to prevent the war in Gaza from spreading. A key concern is Lebanon, where Israeli forces are fighting Hezbollah militants. Hezbollah is closely allied with Iran. This conflict is now a central issue in the negotiations. The situation there could trigger a much wider regional war. Vance will meet with leaders in Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Israel.
