China Probes "National-Level Bullying" of Olympic Diver Quan Hongchan
Chinese authorities have launched a major investigation into organized online bullying targeting Olympic diving champion Quan Hongchan.
The probe will examine malicious attacks against the 17-year-old gold medalist, which officials have labeled "national-level bullying." Harmful posts included insults comparing Quan to a "pig," claiming she "looks like a man," and criticizing her appearance as "countrified."
Some attacks falsely alleged her Olympic victory was due to biased judging rather than skill. Others aggressively called for her retirement.
The investigation highlights growing concern over toxic fan culture and coordinated cyberbullying campaigns against public figures in China. Authorities are treating the harassment of the teenage sports icon as a serious, organized effort.
