Buffalo Police Shove Victim from 2020 Protest Dies

Martin Gugino, the 81-year-old activist who was shoved to the ground by Buffalo police during a 2020 protest, has died. Video of the incident showed two officers pushing Gugino. He fell backward and fractured his skull. The protest was part of nationwide demonstrations following the death of George Floyd. In 2021, Gugino sued the city of Buffalo and members of its police force. His death was confirmed by his attorney, who did not provide a cause. The two officers involved were charged with assault. A jury later found them not guilty.
