NHS Data Chief: Expand Palantir Tech Despite Privacy Fears
The data chief for England's National Health Service (NHS) is pushing for a wider rollout of technology from the controversial US company Palantir.
Ming Tang, NHS England’s Director of Data and Analytics, stated the platform is delivering "outstanding results." The system centralizes patient information from different parts of the health service into a single, unified view.
The call for expansion comes despite significant outcry from privacy advocates and some lawmakers. Critics worry about handing sensitive patient data to a firm known for its work with intelligence and military agencies.
Palantir’s software is currently used as part of the NHS's "Federated Data Platform." Supporters argue it helps hospitals manage waiting lists, supplies, and staff more effectively.
Tang emphasized the operational benefits, suggesting the technology should be deployed more deeply across the health service to improve efficiency. No new timeline for a further rollout was given.
