Hong Kong Moves to Seize Jimmy Lai's Properties
A Hong Kong court will hold a hearing in July on confiscating properties belonging to jailed media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying.
The city's justice secretary filed the application to seize Lai's assets. This follows his conviction and 20-year prison sentence for national security crimes.
According to a court document, the hearing is scheduled to last 60 minutes. It will take place in the Court of First Instance.
The legal action uses powers that allow authorities to confiscate property linked to criminal activity. The move is a direct consequence of Lai's national security convictions earlier this year.
