American journalist Shelly Kittleson has been released, one week after being kidnapped in Baghdad. An Iraqi official confirmed her release on Tuesday afternoon. The official spoke anonymously, as they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly. Kittleson, a freelancer, was reportedly held by an Iran-backed militia group. The militia says she must now leave Iraq. She was taken from a street corner in the Iraqi capital last week. The official stated she had been held in Baghdad before her release but did not give her current location.
