Russian Hackers Hijack British Internet Traffic
The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has issued a stark warning: Russian military hackers are actively rerouting internet traffic from British users.
The hackers are targeting common office and home routers that have not had their passwords updated from factory settings. By compromising these vulnerable devices, the group can secretly intercept data, steal passwords, and collect sensitive login details.
This type of attack, known as "traffic interception," allows hackers to monitor a victim's online activity invisibly. The NCSC attributes the campaign to a unit of Russia's military intelligence service.
The agency urges all individuals and businesses to immediately change any default passwords on their routers. Using strong, unique passwords is a critical first defense against this ongoing threat.
