**Ex-Pinochet Agent Faces Extradition from Australia After 50 Years**
A Chilean woman accused of kidnappings during the Pinochet dictatorship has lost her final bid to avoid extradition from Australia. Adriana Rivas, who moved to Australia in the 1970s, is wanted in Chile on seven charges of aggravated kidnapping. Chilean prosecutors allege she was an agent of the National Intelligence Directorate (DINA), the secret police under General Augusto Pinochet's rule from 1973 to 1990. An Australian court rejected her appeal this week. The judge found no reason she could not receive a fair trial in Chile. Rivas has lived in Sydney for decades, working as a nanny and a cleaner. She has always denied the charges, claiming she was only following orders. Chilean authorities accuse her of involvement in the 1976 kidnapping of a Communist Party member. The victim was held for months at a secret detention center and tortured. With the legal appeal exhausted, Australia's attorney-general must now order her surrender to Chile. This final step could see Rivas sent to face trial after nearly 50 years.
