Mayor's Passover Seder Sparks Political Debate
Mayor Eric Adams celebrated Passover this week at a progressive public event, highlighting the holiday's themes of liberation.
On Monday, the mayor joined a left-wing "Seder in the Street" gathering. The ritual meal, called a Seder, commemorates the biblical story of the Exodus from Egypt.
His participation has drawn attention due to the event's political associations. Later that same evening, Mayor Adams planned to host a separate, traditional Seder for city employees at Gracie Mansion, the official mayor's residence.
The mayor's office has not commented on the differing nature of the two events. Passover is a major Jewish holiday observed by many in the city.
